Micron CEO Warns RAM Shortages to Get Worse in 2027

Memory maker Micron CEO and company chair Sanjay Mehrotra during the most recent earnings call warned RAM shortages will get worse in 2027 and customers will pay a “much higher price” than this year.

“In calendar 2027 as well as 2028, we see demand exceeding supply,” he said (via The Register). “In fact, we see greater tightness in the industry in 2027 and in 2028 versus 2026. Overall, supply-demand environment is only getting tighter.

He added, “We do not have line of sight to when supply and demand will return to balance.”

Micron plans to bring new factories online in 2028 as it has been backed by a $25 billion capital expenditure during the first half of the new financial year. However, executives warn the facilities will take time to help improve the availability and ease prices.

The rising cost of memory and storage have forced the majority of electronics companies to raise prices. This includes console makers – Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox. Valve has also raised the prices of the Steam Deck and the Steam Machine is retailing for over $1,000.
