A case of Cyclospora infection in Italy may have been caused by imported food, according to a study.
Scientists said it is the first molecularly confirmed and genetically sequenced case of locally acquired Cyclospora cayetanensis in Italy. Earlier reports lacked confirmation with gene sequencing and related analysis, limiting epidemiological traceability and source attribution.
