Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia has announced the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Midnight Black Japan-only will launch in Japan on November 19 for 55,000 yen ($348 USD). Pre-orders will open at PlayStation retailers and online stores on October 20.
The Japan-only PS5 console locks the language to Japanese and it can only be used with PlayStation Network accounts registered in Japan.
A Midnight Black standalone disc drive will release alongside the console for 11,980 yen ($76 USD) for those who want to play physical games.
PlayStation did reiterate it still plans to stop releasing new PlayStation physical game discs in January 2028.
“PlayStation games newly released from January 2028 onward will be available only as downloads on the PlayStation Store and at various retailers. Please note that disc versions of games released before January 2028 will still be available,” reads the post.
