Development on the remake of the first The Witcher game has been put on hold while developer Fool’s Theory focuses on The Witcher III: Wild Hunt expansion Songs of the Past.
CD Projekt has told GameSpot the remake has not been cancelled, but has been temporarily put on hold.
The Witcher Remake also shares some of its architecture with The Witcher 4, which Fools’ Theory is also assisting with.
“Fool’s Theory team is focused mainly on the development of Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, while a relatively small part of their team is supporting the development of The Witcher 4,” said CD Projekt.
“As we have previously announced, the development on The Witcher Remake has been temporarily integrated with The Witcher 4 due to production process dependencies. As The Witcher Remake will be built on the foundation laid by The Witcher 4, we need to have the necessary assets, tools, and pipelines ready for efficient development.”
The Witcher III: Wild Hunt Remastered will launch for the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, and Battle.net on September 29.
The Witcher III: Wild Hunt expansion Songs of the Past will launch for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2027.
